Wall Street Week Ahead for the trading week beginning March 9th, 2020

Good Saturday morning to all of you here on StockMarket. I hope everyone on this sub made out pretty nicely in the market this past week, and is ready for the new trading week and month ahead.
Here is everything you need to know to get you ready for the trading week beginning March 9th, 2020.

Wall Street braces for more market volatility as wild swings become the ‘new normal’ amid coronavirus - (Source)

The S&P 500 has never behaved like this, but Wall Street strategists say get used to it.
Investors just witnessed the equity benchmark swinging up or down 2% for four days straight in the face of the coronavirus panic.
In the index’s history dating back to 1927, this is the first time the S&P 500 had a week of alternating gains and losses of more than 2% from Monday through Thursday, according to Bespoke Investment Group. Daily swings like this over a two-week period were only seen at the peak of the financial crisis and in 2011 when U.S. sovereign debt got its first-ever downgrade, the firm said.
“The message to all investors is that they should expect this volatility to continue. This should be considered the new normal going forward,” said Mike Loewengart, managing director of investment strategy at E-Trade.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped north of 1,000 points twice in the past week, only to erase the quadruple-digit gains in the subsequent sessions. The coronavirus outbreak kept investors on edge as global cases of the infections surpassed 100,000. It’s also spreading rapidly in the U.S. California has declared a state of emergency, while the number of cases in New York reached 33.
“Uncertainty breeds greater market volatility,” Keith Lerner, SunTrust’s chief market strategist, said in a note. “Much is still unknown about how severe and widespread the coronavirus will become. From a market perspective, what we are seeing is uncomfortable but somewhat typical after shock periods.”

More stimulus?

So far, the actions from global central banks and governments in response to the outbreak haven’t triggered a sustainable rebound.
The Federal Reserve’s first emergency rate cut since the financial crisis did little to calm investor anxiety. President Donald Trump on Friday signed a sweeping spending bill with an$8.3 billion packageto aid prevention efforts to produce a vaccine for the deadly disease, but stocks extended their heavy rout that day.
“The market is recognizing the global authorities are responding to this,” said Tom Essaye, founder of the Sevens Report. “If the market begins to worry they are not doing that sufficiently, then I think we are going to go down ugly. It is helping stocks hold up.”
Essaye said any further stimulus from China and a decent-sized fiscal package from Germany would be positive to the market, but he doesn’t expect the moves to create a huge rebound.
The fed funds future market is now pricing in the possibility of the U.S. central bank cutting by 75 basis points at its March 17-18 meeting.

Where is the bottom?

Many on Wall Street expect the market to fall further before recovering as the health crisis unfolds.
Binky Chadha, Deutsche Bank’s chief equity strategist, sees a bottom for the S&P 500 in the second quarter after stocks falling as much as 20% from their recent peak.
“The magnitude of the selloff in the S&P 500 so far has further to go; and in terms of duration, just two weeks in, it is much too early to declare this episode as being done,” Chadha said in a note. “We do view the impacts on macro and earnings growth as being relatively short-lived and the market eventually looking through them.”
Deutsche Bank maintained its year-end target of 3,250 for the S&P 500, which would represent a 10% gain from here and a flat return for 2020.
Strategists are also urging patience during this heightened volatility, cautioning against panic selling.
“It is during times like these that investors need to maintain a longer-term perspective and stick to their investment process rather than making knee-jerk, binary decisions,” Brian Belski, chief investment strategist at BMO Capital Markets, said in a note.

A "Run of the Mill" Drawdown

If you're like us, you've heard a lot of people reference the recent equity declines as a sign that the market is pricing in some sort of Armageddon in the US economy. While comments like that make for great soundbites, a little perspective is in order. Since the S&P 500's high on February 19th, the S&P 500 is down 12.8%. In the chart below, we show the S&P 500's annual maximum drawdown by year going back to 1928. In the entire history of the index, the median maximum drawdown from a YTD high is 13.05%. In other words, this year's decline is actually less than normal. Perhaps due to the fact that we have only seen one larger-than-average drawdown in the last eight years is why this one feels so bad.
The fact that the current decline has only been inline with the historical norm raises a number of questions. For example, if the market has already priced in the worst-case scenario, going out and adding some equity exposure would be a no brainer. However, if we're only in the midst of a 'normal' drawdown in the equity market as the coronavirus outbreak threatens to put the economy into a recession, one could argue that things for the stock market could get worse before they get better, especially when we know that the market can be prone to over-reaction in both directions. The fact is that nobody knows right now how this entire outbreak will play out. If it really is a black swan, the market definitely has further to fall and now would present a great opportunity to sell more equities. However, if it proves to be temporary and after a quarter or two resolves itself and the economy gets back on the path it was on at the start of the year, then the magnitude of the current decline is probably appropriate. As they say, that's what makes a market!

Long-Term Treasuries Go Haywire

Take a good luck at today's moves in long-term US Treasury yields, because chances are you won't see moves of this magnitude again soon. Let's start with the yield on the 30-year US Treasury. Today's decline of 29 basis points in the yield will go down as the largest one-day decline in the yield on the 30-year since 2009. For some perspective, there have only been 25 other days since 1977 where the yield saw a larger one day decline.
That doesn't even tell the whole story, though. As shown in the chart below, every other time the yield saw a sharper one-day decline, the actual yield of the 30-year was much higher, and in most other cases it was much, much higher.
To show this another way, the percentage change in the yield on the 30-year has never been seen before, and it's not even close. Now, before the chart crime police come calling, we realize showing a percentage change of a percentage is not the most accurate representation, but we wanted to show this for illustrative purposes only.
Finally, with long-term interest rates plummetting we wanted to provide an update on the performance of the Austrian 100-year bond. That's now back at record highs, begging the question, why is the US not flooding the market with long-term debt?

It Doesn't Get Much Worse Than This For Crude Oil

Crude oil prices are down close to 10% today in what is shaping up to be the worst day for crude oil since late 2014. That's more than five years.
Today's decline is pretty much a continuation of what has been a one-way trade for the commodity ever since the US drone strike on Iranian general Soleimani. The last time prices were this low was around Christmas 2018.
With today's decline, crude oil is now off to its worst start to a year in a generation falling 32%. Since 1984, the only other year that was worse was 1986 when the year started out with a decline of 50% through March 6th. If you're looking for a bright spot, in 1986, prices rose 36% over the remainder of the year. The only other year where crude oil kicked off the year with a 30% decline was in 1991 after the first Iraq war. Over the remainder of that year, prices rose a more modest 5%.

10-Year Treasury Yield Breaks Below 1%

Despite strong market gains on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, the on-the-run 10-year Treasury yield ended the day below 1% for the first time ever and has posted additional declines in real time, sitting at 0.92% intraday as this blog is being written. “The decline in yields has been remarkable,” said LPL Research Senior Market Strategist Ryan Detrick. “The 10-year Treasury yield has dipped below 1%, and today’s declines are likely to make the recent run lower the largest decline of the cycle.”
As shown in LPL Research’s chart of the day, the current decline in the 10-year Treasury yield without a meaningful reversal (defined as at least 0.75%) is approaching the decline seen in 2011 and 2012 and would need about another two months to be the longest decline in length of time. At the same time, no prior decline has lasted forever and a pattern of declines and increases has been normal.
What are some things that can push the 10-year Treasury yield lower?
  • A shrinking but still sizable yield advantage over other developed market sovereign debt
  • Added stock volatility if downside risks to economic growth from the coronavirus increase
  • A larger potential premium over shorter-term yields if the Federal Reserve aggressively cuts interest rates
What are some things that can push the 10-year Treasury yield higher?
  • A second half economic rebound acting a catalyst for a Treasury sell-off
  • As yields move lower, investors may increasingly seek more attractive sources of income
  • Any dollar weakness could lead to some selling by international investors
  • Longer maturity Treasuries are looking like an increasingly crowded trade, potentially adding energy to any sell-off
On balance, our view remains that the prospect of an economic rebound over the second half points to the potential for interest rates moving higher. At the same time, we still see some advantage in the potential diversification benefits of intermediate maturity high-quality bonds, especially during periods of market stress. We continue to recommend that suitable investors consider keeping a bond portfolio’s sensitivity to changes in interest rates below that of the benchmark Bloomberg Barclays U.S. Aggregate Bond Index by emphasizing short to intermediate maturity bonds, but do not believe it’s time to pile into very short maturities despite the 10-year Treasury yield sitting at historically low levels.

U.S. Jobs Growth Marches On

While stock markets continue to be extremely volatile as they come to terms with how the coronavirus may affect global growth, the U.S. job market has remained remarkably robust. Continued U.S. jobs data resilience in the face of headwinds from the coronavirus outbreak may be a key factor in prolonging the expansion, given how important the strength of the U.S. consumer has been late into this expansion.
The U.S. Department of Labor today reported that U.S. nonfarm payroll data had a strong showing of 273,000 jobs added in February, topping the expectation of every Bloomberg-surveyed economist, with an additional upward revision of 85,000 additional jobs for December 2019 and January 2020. This has brought the current unemployment rate back to its 50-year low of 3.5%. So far, it appears it’s too soon for any effects of the coronavirus to have been felt in the jobs numbers. (Note: The survey takes place in the middle of each month.)
On Wednesday, ADP released its private payroll data (excluding government jobs), which increased by 183,000 in February, also handily beating market expectations. Most of these jobs were added in the service sector, with 44,000 added in the leisure and hospitality sector, and another 31,000 in trade/transportation/utilities. Both of these areas could be at risk of potential cutbacks if consumers start to avoid eating out or other leisure pursuits due to coronavirus fears.
As shown in the LPL Chart of the Day, payrolls remain strong, and any effects of the virus outbreaks most likely would be felt in coming months.
“February’s jobs report shows the 113th straight month that the U.S. jobs market has grown,” said LPL Financial Senior Market Strategist Ryan Detrick. “That’s an incredible run and highlights how the U.S. consumer has become key to extending the expansion, especially given setbacks to global growth from the coronavirus outbreak.”
While there is bound to be some drag on future jobs data from the coronavirus-related slowdown, we would anticipate that the effects of this may be transitory. We believe economic fundamentals continue to suggest the possibility of a second-half-of-the–year economic rebound.

Down January & Down February: S&P 500 Posts Full-Year Gain Just 43.75% of Time

The combination of a down January and a down February has come about 17 times, including this year, going back to 1950. Rest of the year and full-year performance has taken a rather sizable hit following the previous 16 occurrences. March through December S&P 500 average performance drops to 2.32% compared to 7.69% in all years. Full-year performance is even worse with S&P 500 average turning to a loss of 4.91% compared to an average gain of 9.14% in all years. All hope for 2020 is not lost as seven of the 16 past down January and down February years did go on to log gains over the last 10 months and full year while six enjoyed double-digit gains from March to December.

Take Caution After Emergency Rate Cut

Today’s big rally was an encouraging sign that the markets are becoming more comfortable with the public health, monetary and political handling of the situation. But the history of these “emergency” or “surprise” rate cuts by the Fed between meetings suggest some caution remains in order.
The table here shows that these surprise cuts between meetings have really only “worked” once in the past 20+ years. In 1998 when the Fed and the plunge protection team acted swiftly and in a coordinated manner to stave off the fallout from the financial crisis caused by the collapse of the Russian ruble and the highly leveraged Long Term Capital Management hedge fund markets responded well. This was not the case during the extended bear markets of 2001-2002 and 2007-2009.
Bottom line: if this is a short-term impact like the 1998 financial crisis the market should recover sooner rather than later. But if the economic impact of coronavirus virus is prolonged, the market is more likely to languish.

[LONG] My Story of Disillusionment with and Disappointment in the World and Myself

Intro.
This might be a long one. I hope someone reads the thing, I put like 3 hours into writing it. A brief story of my life and how it all led up to this moment, where I am disillusioned with my self-image, my life choices, and certain aspects of the world, and have no idea what to do next. Warning: this whole thing might be a little depressing to read.
Childhood.
I am a 20yo Russian male. During my childhood, I was made to believe that I am capable of doing something great and doing better than anyone. At the same time I developed a very non-conformist life stance and very often rejected things and ideas simply because they were too popular for my taste, and I couldn't feel special whilst enjoying them. Of course, in turn, society rejected me, as it does with anyone who doesn't play by the rules. Oh well.
My only redeeming quality was that I considered myself pretty smart. Which is even easier to assume, when at the same time you think that you're different from everyone else. Now, I know that to some extent, I was indeed smarter than most people in certain areas. Unlike most people I knew back then, often with bare minimum efforts I was able to maintain near perfect grades at school. I was also enjoying learning new things and reading more than an average person. So, let's just say, I had a basis to assume I was a smart dude.
I wasn't happy and content with my life, though. I never had real friends, because I only hung out with people when they were my classmates/roommates/co-workers, and after we parted ways, I rarely if ever contacted them afterwards. I always enjoyed doing things you usually do in solitude more, because when I was alone, I wouldn't be afraid that someone could hurt me for being different. Because of that, I was never in a romantic relationship.
High School.
Still, life was going okay. By the end of school, I kind of accepted my social deficiency and I wanted to focus on improving the world and become a successful person - for myself. I was facing a dilemma, though. Despite the fact that I was doing great in school, the idea of having to invest four years of my time into studying something really specific, and then having to work another 20-30 years on the same job was terrifying, because I had no idea what I liked to do! Nothing seemed interesting to me, I didn't have a passion for doing anything... Thanks to my video game addiction, which made me lazy as fuck, probably. I also needed to meet my criteria for success with my future job, which included being financially successful. I grew up in top 1% income family, so... I always felt the pressure to outperform or at least match my parents' income.
Enter trading. My dad discovered investing several years ago (we don't live in US, so most of the people aren't as financially savvy, so he never thought about investing before then). I was always curious about financial independence and markets, but now I was seeing it all done in front of me, I realized that it might be a good opportunity to make a lot of money and become successful without being socially adept, which is something absolutely required in business or politics. So, I asked my father to open a brokerage account for me in the US, and started swing trading (trading in weekly/monthly time frames). I could only trade slow and small because of the trade restrictions put on accounts <$25k and <21yo in the US. Still, it was going well, but in hindsight I was just lucky to be there during a great bull market.
Even before I thought trading and more importantly investing were the ways smart people make money. I thought simply because I was conventionally smart, I had a talent or an innate ability to pick innovative stocks and do venture investing when I grow some capital. I truly believed in that long before I was introduced to financial markets, I believed that my surface level understanding of multiple areas of cutting edge and emerging technology would give me an edge compared to all the other investors.
US Community College and Return Back.
In the end, I've decided I want to go to a US community college and study finance and become a trader and later an investor, but I didn't want to work for a fund or something like that (lazy ass). I wanted to use my knowledge and skill and my own money to grow my net worth and make a living. I didn't really like the process of trading, I just needed the money to live by while I was trying to figure out what else to do with my life. Because I thought I were smart, I thought this would come easily to me. Boy was I wrong. From the nicest of conditions in my hometown, I was suddenly moved into a foreign setting, on the other side of the planet away form my family and mates, with a video game addiction and laziness that ruined my daily routine and studying as well. The fact that I didn't like my major was not helping. My grades fell from A- in the first quarter to C+ in the last. I gained +30% from my normal weight. I was stressed out, not going outside and sitting at my computer desk for days at a time, skipping all the classes I could if they were not absolutely essential for my grades, living on prepared foods. I never got out of my shell and barely talked to anyone in English, all of my friends were Russian speaking. I wasted an opportunity to improve my speaking, although aside from that my English skills satisfy me.
By the end of community college, last summer, I was left with B grades that wouldn't let me transfer anywhere decent, and the extreme stress that I put myself through started taking a toll on my mental health. I was planning to take a break and go back to Russia for several months, and transfer back to a US uni this winter. Needless to say, you can't run from yourself. It didn't really become much better after a few months in Russia. I didn't want to study finance anymore, because it was boring and I was exhausted. I still had the video game addiction, still was lazy and gained some more extra pounds of weight. I was not sleeping at all, extremely sleep deprived for months. Because of this and lack of mental stimulation I started to become dumber. And all that was happening where I didn't really have to do anything: not study or work, just sit around the house and do whatever I wanted. Turns out, these conditions didn't help me to get out of the incoming depression.
Finally, around November, when I already sent out all of my transfer applications and already got some positive answers from several universities, I knew I didn't have much time left at home, and I had to leave soon. But I really, really didn't want to go back. It was scarier than the first time. I was afraid of new changes, I just wanted for the time to stop and letting me relax, heal... I was having suicidal thoughts and talked about it with my family and my therapist. They were all supportive and helped me as much as they could. But I was the only person who could really help myself. If I wanted to breathe freely, I had to admit defeat and not go back to the US to continue my education. It was extremely hard at first, but then I just let go. I decided to find a temporary job as an English tutor and give myself time to think. Then I remembered that I had a bunch of money in my trading account. I still thought that I was pretty smart, despite failing college, so I figured, why not try move it to Russian brokers who don't have trading restrictions, and do it full time? Which is exactly what I did. And I started to study trading all by myself at a fast pace. I was now trading full time and it was going sideways: +10% in December, -20% in January. Then, something incredible happened. I was already in a shitty place in life, but I still had some hope for my future. Things were about to get much worse. I'm in the late January, and I discovered for myself that the whole financial industry of the world was a fraud.
Brief Explanation of My Discoveries.
In the image of the financial industry, there are several levels of perceived credibility.
In the bottom tier, there is pure gambling. In my country, there were periods when binary options trading and unreliable Forex brokers were popular among common folk, but these were obvious and unsophisticated fraudsters who were one step away from being prosecuted. There are also cryptocurrencies that don't hold any value and are also used only for speculation/redistribution of wealth. There is also a wonderful gambling subreddit wallstreetbets where most users don't even try to hide the fact that what they are doing is pure gambling. I love it. But the thing is, this is trading/investing for the people who have no idea what it is, and most people discredit it as a fraud, which it, indeed, is. These examples are 99% marketing/public image and 1% finance. But these offer x10-1000 returns in the shortest time span. Typical get-rich-quick schemes, but they attract attention.
Then, there is trading tier. You can have multiple sub levels here, in the bottom of this tier we would probably have complex technical analysis (indicators) and daily trading/scalping. I was doing this in the DecembeJanuary. At the top would be people who do fundamental analysis (study financial reports) and position trade (monthly time frames). Now, there is constant debate in the trading community whether technical analysis or fundamental analysis is better. I have a solid answer to the question. They work in the same way. Or rather, they don't work at all.
You'd ask: "Why you didn't discover this earlier? You were in this financial thing for several years now!" Well, you see, unlike on the previous level, here millions of people say that they actually believe trading works and there is a way to use the available tools to have great returns. Some of these people actually know that trading doesn't work, but they benefit from other traders believing in it, because they can sell them courses or take brokerage fees from them. Still, when there are millions around you telling you that it works, even a non-conformist like me would budge. Not that many people actually participate in the markets, so I thought that by being in this minority made me smart and protected from fraudsters. Lol. All it took for me to discover the truth is to accidentally discover that some technical indicators give random results, do a few google searches, reach some scientific studies which are freely available and prove that technical and fundamental analysis don't work. It was always in front of me, but the fucking trading community plugged my ears and closed my eyes shut so I wasn't able to see it. Trading usually promises 3-15% gain a month.
A huge shock, but surely there was still a way for me to work this out? Active investing it is!
The next level, active investing, is different from trading. You aim for 15-50% yearly returns, but you don't have to do as much work. You hold on to stocks of your choice for years at a time, once in a while you study the markets, re balance your portfolio, etc. Or you invest your money in a fund, that will select the stocks of their choice and manage their and your portfolio for you. For a small fee of course. All of these actions are aimed at trying to outperform the gain the market made as a whole, and so called index funds, which invest in basically everything and follow the market returns - about 7-10% a year. And if I ever had any doubts in trading, I firmly believed that active investing works since I was a little kid (yes I knew about it back then). And this is where the real fraud comes in.
The whole Wall Street and every broker, every stock exchange in the world are a part of a big fraud. Only about 10-20% of professional fund managers outperform the market in any 15 year period. If you take 30 years, this dwindles to almost nothing, which means that no one can predict the markets. These people have no idea what they are doing. Jim Cramer is pure show-business and has no idea what's going on. Warren Buffet gained his fortune with pure luck, and for every Buffet there are some people who made only a million bucks and countless folks who lost everything.
Wall Street. They have trillions of dollars and use all that money and power and marketing to convince you that there is a way to predict where the stocks are going without being a legal insider or somehow abusing the law. They will make you think you can somehow learn from them where to invest your money on your own or they will make you believe that you should just give it to them and they will manage it for you, because they know how everything works and they can predict the future using past data.
They won't. They don't. They can't. There are studies and statistics to prove it countless times over the span of a 100 years. But they will still charge you exchange fees, brokerage fees and management fees anyway. And they also manipulate certain studies, lobby where and when they need it, and spread misinformation on an unprecedented scale, creating a positive image of themselves. And everyone falls for that. Billions of people around the globe still think it's all legit.
Passive index investing is the last level. You just put your money in the market and wait. Markets will go up at a predetermined rate. If there's a crisis, in 10 years no one will even remember. Markets always go up in the end. But passive index investing can only give you only 7% inflation-adjusted returns a year. Not enough to stop working or even retire early, unless you have a high-paying job in a first-world country. I don't.
Despite all that, to put it simply, this is the only type of investing that works and doesn't involve any kind of fraud or gambling. It's the type of investing that will give you the most money. If you want to know why it is like that and how to do it, just go to financialindependence. They know this stuff better than any other sub. Better than investing, trading or any other sub where non-passive-index investing is still discussed as viable strategy.
Back to me.
My whole being was fucked over, my hopes and dreams and understanding of success and how this world works were shattered. I realized, I had no future in financial industry, because only middlemen make money in there, and I quit college needed to get there. Frankly, I wouldn't want to work there even if I had the opportunity. The pay is good, but the job is boring and I wouldn't want to be a part of this giant scheme anyway. But even if I wanted to go back, I also couldn't. Russia is in a worsening crisis and my parents could no longer afford a US university and now with coronavirus it's even worse. Good thing I quit before it all happened. I learned a valuable lesson and didn't lose that much money for it (only about 10% of my savings). God knows where it would lead me if I continued to be delusional. But now that my last temporary plans for the future were scrapped, I had no idea what to do next.
The future.
With the reality hitting me, I would lie if I say it didn't all come full circle and connect to my past. I realized that I was stupid and not intelligent, because I was living in a made-up world for years now. But even if I were intelligent, pure wit would not give me the success and fortune that I was craving, because trading and active investing were a no-go for me, and business/politics require a very different, extroverted mindset, different education and interest from my own. My only redeeming quality in a hopeless introvert world, my perceived intelligence was taken away from me and rendered useless at the same time.
Besides, failing at that one thing made me insecure about everything and now I think of myself as an average individual. So, if 8 out of 10 businesses fail, I shouldn't start one because I will probably fail. And if most politicians don't get anywhere, why should I bother? If average salary in my country is X, I shouldn't hope for more. I stopped believing in my ability to achieve something. First, I failed at education and now I failed... Professionally? I don't know how to describe it, but my life recently was just an emotional roller coaster. I just feel like a very old person and all I want calmness and stability in my life. I was very lazy before just because, but now I feel like I also don't want to do anything because I feel I would just fail. It feels better now I don't have to worry about trading anymore and I got rid of that load... But I am still miserable and perhaps worse than ever, maybe I just don't understand and feel it because I've become slow and numb. The only positive thing that happened to me recently, is that I finally started losing weight and about 1/4 of the way back to my normal weight.
As for my future, am looking at several possibilities here. So far the parents are allowing my miserable life to continue and they let me live with them and buy me food. I don't need anything else right now. But it can't go on like this forever. The thought of having a mundane low-paying job in this shithole of a country depresses me. I will probably temporarily do English tutoring if there's demand for such work. My old school friends want me to help them in their business and my dad wants me to help him in his, I and probably should, but I feel useless, pathetic and incapable of doing anything of value. And business just seems boring, difficult and too stressful for me right now. Just not my cup of tea.
I am also looking at creative work. I love video games, music, films and other forms of art. I love the games most though, so I am looking into game dev. I don't really like programming, I have learned some during school years, but the pay would probably be higher for a programmer than an creator of any kind of art. However, I think I would enjoy art creation much more, but I don't have any experience in drawing and only some limited experience in music production. And I am not one of these kids who always had a scrapbook with them at school. Having to make another life choice paralyzes me. I am leaning towards art. I don't feel confident in my ability to learn this skill from scratch, but I think it's my best shot at finding a job that would make me happy.
So perhaps, when this whole pandemic is over, I'll go to Europe and get my degree, get a job there and stay. American Dream is dead to me, and Europe is cheaper, closer, safe and comfortable. Just the thing for a person who feels like they are thrice their real age.
Outro.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. Special thanks if you read the whole thing, it means a whole lot to me, an internet stranger. But even if no one reads it, feels good to get this off my chest. I actually cried during writing some parts. Holy shit, this might be the longest and smartest looking thing my dumbed down head could manage to generate since college. I hope that you're having a great day. Stay healthy and be careful during this fucking pandemic. All the best.

Online Bra Destination ThirdLove Opens Concept Store in New York

Watch out, Victoria’s Secret: digital competitor ThirdLove is entering the in-real-life retail space. The direct-to-consumer lingerie brand’s first concept store is scheduled to open next week in New York City’s trendy SoHo.
ThirdLove, based in San Francisco, exists at the intersection of fashion and tech, using a data-first and body-inclusivity approach for women, as well as non-binary people, find the best bra for their bodies. Since founding the company in 2013, Heidi Zak and her co-ceo husband, David Spector, have raised $68.6 million in venture capital, including $55 million in a Series B round in February 2019. The company wouldn’t provide _Fortune_with sales figures, but published reports peg its growth at 180% over the last four years.
Opening Wednesday, the store—intended to be temporary—allows ThirdLove to further fine-tune its business, gleaning customer feedback about bra shopping and fit, while building on information from the brand’s online Fit Finder quiz.
While it’s too early to measure ThirdLove’s impact on the lingerie market—there are also other companies pursuing the body-positivity underwear space—it’s certainly disrupting the idea of fitting rooms, which cover 60% of ThirdLove’s 2,000-square-foot concept store.
Brooklyn architecture and design firm Alda Ly developed different kinds of fitting rooms in order to address varying privacy concerns and needs of shoppers. (Among Alda Ly’s retail clients are Rent the Runway and feminist boutique Bulletin, as well as the women’s co-working space The Wing.)
“The typical fitting room experience—in particular for bras—is not the most compelling and comfortable,” Zak tells _Fortune._“It can also be awkward depending on your interactions with sales associates and the level of privacy you may or may not want.”
One fitting room has a drawer so customers and salespeople can pass bras back and forth without seeing each other. Another has a double curtain so you can change in privacy and then ask for feedback from fit stylists. The third is a larger fitting room that has enough room for a fit stylist, too.
Data-First Approach
Like elsewhere in the economy, especially for consumer product companies, the intimate apparel industry is driven and shaped by data.
Before Zak co-founded ThirdLove she worked for Aeropostale. From her retail experience, she thought reams of consumer data weren’t being leveraged in day-to-day decision-making. Zak’s experience also includes a Google marketing stint. At ThirdLove, she now manages a 20-person data team.
The company is perhaps best known for its Fit Finder quiz, a data nerve center. Zak told _Fortune_that 14 million women have taken the quiz to date, and the machine-learning algorithm that powers it gets smarter with every new submission.
“We’ve collected over a billion data points as it relates to not just the Fit Finder, but also browsing data, customer journeys, interactions with fit stylists, and many more aspects of the business,” Zak said. “So we really try to use the data to be smarter in everything we do.” Data analysis can influence something as seemingly mundane as messaging in emails, or larger concerns as product development and the retail concept.
Size Inclusivity
Across all coverage, ThirdLove credits itself with inventing the “half-size” cup for a more custom bra fit. As a result, there are 78 sizes available, from 30 inches–48 inches and cups AA–I. Colors also match several skin tones.
The concept store will stock seven types of bras (T-Shirt, Perfect Coverage, Classic Plunge, Strapless, Wireless, Lace Balconette, and Lace Plunge) in all the retailer’s bra sizes. Although every bra style will be available to try on in every size, only certain styles—like the strapless bra, which is usually purchased for time-sensitive, special occasions—will be available for in-store purchase; everything else will be available for two-day shipment.
It hasn’t been decided how long the concept store will exist. Going forward, Zak said there are no plans for permanent bricks-and-mortar stores in ThirdLove’s future.
A lingerie industry evolution
ThirdLove’s attention to the spectrum of bra-wearing bodies is part of the cutting edge in lingerie, as well as cultural awareness.
“The lingerie industry has changed drastically in the past few years as a function of how the culture’s view of womanhood has changed,” said Lauren Chan, the founder and CEO of Henning, a plus-size womenswear brand launching this fall.
As a former plus model and _Glamour_fashion editor, she covered the plus fashion beat for the magazine from 2015-2018. She noted imagery around lingerie has become less perfect and more relatable, and until recently, plus-size women and women of color could only find what they needed among brands geared toward older women, sold at department, off-price, and speciality stores. “It’s no surprise that women have been leading the charge on both the shift in the zeitgeist and this market,” Chan said.
Cora Harrington, founder and editor-in-chief of The Lingerie Addict, an influential lingerie blog, says she buys most of her bras online.
“It is not possible for me to buy a nude bra in my skin tone from a brick-and-mortar store,” she said. “Even if I wanted to, most shops simply don’t carry it.” When she looks for brands doing well in terms of being “progressive,” she looks for age diversity, racial and ethnic diversity, and an effort to use gender-neutral language.
“Not all customers are cis[gender], heterosexual, or women,” she said. “I’m also looking for continuity. A one-off, special campaign is far less impressive to me than, say, consistently using trans models, models of color, and plus-size models in your marketing,” she said.
Qualitative feedback and social media impact
Megan Grassell, the founder and CEO of direct-to-consumer youth underwear company Yellowberry, thinks social media has been a game-changer for the lingerie industry.
Thanks to customer feedback online, she said, “We’re very aware of what people want to buy and what they expect from brands, which is not just about a product anymore. The way a brand makes you feel is why people identify so deeply with different companies.”
Grassell solicits feedback from girls and their mothers on product development and branding, because she wants them to feel represented. “Ten years ago, you bought what was sold to you, you didn’t really have an opportunity to give feedback in a meaningful way and I think people have that today, and it’s made a big impact,” she said.
As Grassell noted, brands listening to their customers have the strongest chance of staying in the game. “The lingerie brands that have disrupted the industry in a meaningful way are not the brands getting the most press for being disruptive,” said Harrington. “The industry determines if you’re disruptive by altering the way they do things after you.”
Harrington said Nubian Skin is a good example of a truly disruptive brand, citing their product color range. “While they were not the first brand to offer a range of deeper-toned nudes, they did have the biggest impact. After their debut, suddenly dozens of deeper-toned nudes appeared on the market and stayed in the market. This was a permanent change instigated by a single brand. “
Zak says when she launched ThirdLove in 2013, the phrase “direct-to-consumer” didn’t exist. “Ten years ago, you had department stores, specialty stores like Victoria’s Secret, and mass merchant stores,” she said. “Even today that still exists. The vast majority of sales are still coming from a Victoria’s Secret, even though they’ve been on the decline.”
It’s all about a change in perspective. “But I think, really, what you’ve seen in the evolution is a focus in selling products to women instead of selling products to men, and understanding women’s needs and wants as it relates to bras and underwear,” Zak said.
“Ten years ago, hardly anyone was making bras beyond a DD cup or a 36 band, and the companies that were didn’t care much about aesthetics,” Harrington said. “I often say there has never been a better time than right now to become interested in lingerie, and I mean that. Our options and our ability to access those options is better than at any point before.”

Like lots of CRM shareholders, I've been scratching my head about them wanting to buy Twitter. So turbulence aside, is it good investment?

Description

salesforce.com, inc. is a provider of enterprise cloud computing solutions, with a focus on customer relationship management (CRM). The Company's Customer Success Platform, including sales force automation, customer service and support, marketing automation, community management, analytics, application development, etc.
So why buy Twitter? Here's that Reuters says:
Unlike Twitter, its main product is aimed at business users, not consumers. Under Salesforce.com, Twitter could become a corporate tool used to power sentiment analysis and nurture customer relationships.
Now odd that that might seem, remember that we the user of Google are not the "customers". The advertisers are the customers. So perhaps there is method in the madness?

Recent financials

It's really hard to not be impressed by a top line like CRM's! And given it's a "cloud" business with a "SaaS" model, the momentum should run. Why? folks are signing up for monthly subscriptions and they just seem to never go cancelling them in the software space.
Jan year-end 2016A 2015A 2014A 2013A 2012A
Revenue $6.7bn $5.4bn $4.1bn $3.1bn $2.3bn
EPS -$0.07 -$0.42 -$0.39 -$0.48 -$0.02
Of course, it's troubling that the company hasn't turned a profit in the last 5 years, but here's to a first in the year to Jan 2017!

Competition

Talking about the competition, Salesforce highlights:
We compete primarily with generalized platforms and vendors of packaged business software, as well as companies offering enterprise apps, including CRM, collaboration and business intelligence software. We also compete with internally developed apps. We may encounter competition from established enterprise software vendors, as well as start-up and midsized companies focused on disruption, who may develop toolsets and products that allow customers to build new apps that run on the customers’ current infrastructure or as hosted services.
Though one of the competitive risks they highlight is actual a strength of there own!
Many prospective customers have invested substantial personnel and financial resources to implement and integrate their current enterprise software into their businesses and therefore may be reluctant or unwilling to migrate away from their current solution to an enterprise cloud computing application service.
i.e. like a lot of software based services, once you've got the client they are loathed to leave.
And how does this show on in the financials, well the old men of Enterprise technology (MSFT, ORCL, SAP) enjoy little growth but great returns and margins. But the new kids, CRM, WDAY, NOW have the growth but little margin or return.
Companies Latest Sales Operating Profit Return on Equity
salesforce.com, inc. $7,475M 8% 4%
Microsoft Corporation $85,320M 33% 22%
Oracle Corporation $37,194M 42% 19%
SAP SE (ADR) $23,533M 32% 16%
Intuit Inc. $4,694M 32% 46%
Workday Inc $1,352M -15% -31%
ServiceNow Inc $1,194M -8% -117%

Cash / Debt?

If we look at salesforce's balance sheet we can see it has $1,340M of net debt. That is 2.2x it's latest operating profit. So it's a $50bn market value business with quite a bit of debt on it's books and it's considering a bid for TWTR a $13bn value business (though $2bn of that is cash).

Wall Street thinks?

The professionals on Wall Street have a $93.51 for salesforce.com, inc. and their recommendation to clients is Buy. That implies an upside of 29% to their target.

Valuation

I've always struggled to value the highflying SaaS businesses. The regular metrics just don't give any comfort. And if I switch to price-to-sales I still get faced with CRM on 6x forward sales versus MSFT/ORCL on 4x. So where's the comfort there?
And I can't even hang my hat on the earnings the year after next :( With a forecast of $0.95 this year and just $1.27 the year after.
View Peers Valuation Forecast PE Long-term Growth Dividend Yield FCF Yield
CRM $49,608M 76x 30% 0% 1%
MSFT.O $445,654M 20x 9% 3% 8%
ORCL.K $156,056M 14x 8% 2% 9%
SAP $110,016M 21x 11% 1% 6%
INTU.O $27,597M 25x 17% 1% 5%
WDAY.K $17,570M -ve 38% 0% -ve
NOW $12,963M 120x 44% 0% -ve
To try and justify the valuation you need to dig into the cashflow statement and drink from the SaaS KoolAid. For example on the managements 2Q results they talked about:
our full year operating cash flow guidance to a year-over-year growth rate of 20% to 21% which allows us to remain on track for our first $2 billion cash flow year.
Now 25x cashflow doesn't look "hideous" for a business growing like CRM... but if you start looking at the way that figure is calculated, I expect you'll be surprised to see Depreciation > capex, half of the figure coming in deferred revenue, and a substantial % from stock-options-plan adjustments.

Dividends

You won't be surprised that salesforce.com, inc. is not forecast to pay a dividend this year.
Though in share contrast to the big caps who like doing share buybacks, the number of share in circulation at CRM is up substantially in each of the last 5 years.

Catalysts

In the last 3 months the stock price has moved by -11% that compares with no change in the earnings forecasts. The backdrop has been continued double digit top line growth at 26% in the first 6 months.
On the management team's latest call with Wall Street brokers, they raised guidance for sales, expressed confidence in their margin, spoke of an exciting new set of products (e.g. Einstein), strong cashflows and much more.
In the near-term it's hard to see any catalyst other than the rumor mill round Twitter. And binary outcomes are a horrible environment to take a position in. You'll either feel like a hero or get hammered.
For me, it's one to sit out. Unless of course the stock get's hammered, with investors throwing the baby out with the bathwater!

Before you Trade – Binary Options Basic Strategy That Anyone Can Use

Despite its simplicity and the opportunity to make high returns making just easy yes/no type investment decisions, a binary trader can give themselves a distinct edge and an increased chance of trading success in a number of ways. The very basic strategy you see in this chapter can be adhered to and learnt by anyone with little or no experience in financial trading, yet can still have a significant impact on the overall profit or loss of the trader.
Binary Options Basic Strategy Steps
https://preview.redd.it/jqx7wia09jz01.png?width=512&format=png&auto=webp&s=4f7aad9001b96b626f3bd882d79cc3da073f1d9f
Learn the Assets
The choice of assets in which to trade can run into the hundreds with that number increasing all the time. Each asset has its own characteristics, so it is best advised to commit the time and energy to specialize in just a few assets than try to understand the complexities of all of them. The more you understand about an asset, the easier it is to explain and predict why it is moving in one particular direction. The targeting of just a couple of assets to focus on is probably the most rewarding of all the tactics that can be applied to binary trading and can open the doors to more profit opportunities.
Practice Practice makes perfect!
It doesn’t matter if you are playing sports or making an investment. The more you practice; the more chance you will get it right when it really matters. Having a practice account or trying a demo can give the trader opportunities to get a feel for the platform, try out new strategies and familiarize yourself with the customer service without having to actually put any money down.
Read the news
Knowing what is happening in the world doesn’t involve scouring the news for hours on end and more often than not, a few targeted news sites can keep even the most isolated trader up to date with the news and events that formulate market direction. Be sure to read our daily analysis which covers all the major markets including Forex, Stocks, Commodities and Indices. It even looks at the outlook for the day with upcoming economic events and how they might affect the various assets. Having access to a good economic calendar will keep the trader up to date on what data is being released and when – a key cause of market volatility.
Choose the right platform
There is no shortage of choice in binary options trading platforms, even after regulation weeded out some of the undesirables. The platforms in which trade vary considerably. So when choosing a platform that is right for you, it is important to consider:
Number of Assets
Different platforms offer different assets. Generally, the number of assets a platform will offer can be as little as 20 running up to the hundreds for other platforms. This is not to say that the platform offering the most assets is the best; even though more profit opportunities are created by an increased amount of assets to trade, the important aspect is choosing a platform that offers the assets right for you, especially if you are looking to trade currency pairs or stocks. As a rule, avoid trading platforms which offer just a few currency pairs and a limited number of assets as these will limit your profit opportunities.
The Returns
We all want to maximize our return which is why it is important to compare the different returns that platforms offer and they do vary wildly. Trading gold over one hour may offer a fixed return of 65% with one platform, but the same contract can produce a return of 80% with another platform. That means you can increase your profits by 15% for doing nothing other than your homework in choosing the right platform.
Deposits/Withdrawals
Something that is often over looked by traders but can be very important in money management. The different platforms have different rules regarding every aspect of the deposit and withdrawal process. There can be limitations and penalties on the withdrawals which may affect your liquidity, so read through the terms and conditions to make sure the platforms banking policy suits you.
Others
Now that regulation is being phased in; issues like security are becoming less of an issue than before. Check the security level by looking at its encryption level. The trading platform should at least have 128 bit SSL encryption ability from a major software security provider.
The platform must offer access that matches your needs which again, is less of a problem, with many platforms now offering 24/7 trading
Customer service
The customer service is always an important aspect to choosing the right platform which also often gets overlooked. Trying out a demo account will give you a feel of the customer service on offer. It’s a sad fact that like with any business, not all platforms offer customer service that is up to scratch, so make sure the platform you choose offers the customer services you expect and want.
How to Trade
Once a suitable platform has been chosen long with which assets to trade and only after the research has been done, it is time to make a trade. Trading in binary options could not be any easier.
1) Choose an Asset – Anything from currency pairs like the EUUSD, Stocks like Yahoo, Indices like the Nikkei 225 and commodities like Gold.
2) Make your Prediction – Select a call or put option on the asset you have chosen
3) Choose the amount to invest
4) Wait for Expiry.
If your prediction was correct at the time of expiry; you are in the money and receive the stated payout. If your prediction was incorrect at the time of expiry; you are out of the money, but still receive a percentage of your original stake back up to approximately 15%.

The Bitcoin Code Review
We are here to decode what The Bitcoin Code has in store for you Does It Works. The Bitcoin Code System is the brain child of Founder Steve McKay. Brian along with his huge effective team of employees has created The Bitcoin Code software which has best binary trading APP in 2017!
The Bitcoin Code software is the best auto trader app launched in the recent times. The Bitcoin Code system has already been proven in over 1,342 trading sessions with only 1 losing day! During the trading day it obviously has some losing trades, but what impressed us about Bitcoin Code software is that it has been making daily profits on such a consistent basis! Bitcoin Code system is capable of fully automated Binary Options trading, as well as semi-automated trading, which is my preferred method.
We have inside knowledge that all their The Bitcoin Code figures are being checked by accountants and lawyers, and have also been submitted to review by the Securities Authority of the US and Japan Stock Exchanges. They wouldn’t do all that unless The Bitcoin Code Investments Ltd is very confident about the outcome!
Hang on, because our The Bitcoin Code Review has a lot more to reveal About The Bitcoin Code system!
Is The Bitcoin Code Software A Really Winning Auto Trader?
Well, actually YES. The Bitcoin Code Investments Ltd is a software developer of high-speed computer that automatically invests the money in the stock exchanges of the world and has only lost once in the last four years. In the past four years, Bitcoin Code system performs trading sessions in 1478 and only once, just the one session ended in loss. The Bitcoin Code system is so easy that you can access the platform using any computer or mobile device, wherever that is based on the web, as long as you have an Internet connection. The Bitcoin Code software can serve as a signal service or work on complete autopilot, which means you do not need to have knowledge of trade or experience to use The Bitcoin Code.
How Does The Bitcoin Code Software Work?
According to Steve McKay, CEO and the Founder of The Bitcoin Code Trading Investments Ltd, “The Bitcoin Code is a trading system something that existing infrastructure and very fast computers used to buy assets, currency and futures and selling in financial markets. They do this throughout the course of the daily trading sessions based on algorithms.
“As another analyst described,” For assets is interest, offering both a buy and sell price. At the end of the day, but sells most of the jobs and earn money. “The Bitcoin Code Investments Ltd. is engaged in 165 exhibitions in 35 countries. The founder and CEO of Steve McKay, who belongs to top 300 list of billionaires by “Forbes” magazine. William R. Johnson, the CEO of the Stock Exchange of New York (1996-2016), is also involved in The Bitcoin Code Software. Although in the overall daily calculations, the trading machine never loses, a small number of speed transactions it performs are actually losses, but victories vastly outnumber the losses.
Apart from manual trading, The Bitcoin Code also has a great auto trading mode which is actually helpful for any newbie out there who is desperately trying to minimize the learning curve and profit something. We really recommend to use the auto trader feature, why? cause we found some amazing results with The Bitcoin Code Software!

Our The Bitcoin Code Results
Now, to my The Bitcoin Code results. By the time I’m writing this The Bitcoin Code review I have used The Bitcoin Code APP for over 17 Days. During the last 23 sessions, The Bitcoin Code Software traded a total of 174 signals and 137 were ITM. This is an amazing 85% win rate. I made a deposit of $300 with OptionsMaker and invested $50 per each trade (What can I do, I’m usually very skeptic about new binary trading softxware.) My balance today is $3590, which means I’ve made $3090 in just 3 weeks of using The Bitcoin Code Software, with a daily average of over $140 in profits. That’s not bad at all, but it’s hard not to imagine how my profits could have looked like if my trading amount was $1000 (I could have made $280 per day!). By the way, I usually take just 5-8 signals per day and I’m using The Bitcoin Code system in its autopilot mode.
Is The Bitcoin Code SCAM?
The Bitcoin Code is a legit, highly profitable binary options trading system! $350 per day is not the promised $2,500 Per Day, true, but it’s still much better than most of the trading software I’ve seen and also if I’d been investing more than just $50 per trade, I would have made much more money! I’m definitely going to keep on Using The Bitcoin Code Software, but I am going to increase my trade amount to $100-150 per trade.
Nothing we were able to find linked in anyway to this being a scam. We at The Daily Harrison highly recommend The Bitcoin Code Trading software as any novice or experienced trader could be successful with Bitcoin Code software within no time. Hope you have checked my result as well. More over top 3 binary options websites have endorsed The Bitcoin Code and there is no negative response reported so far, which proves that Bitcoin Code software is profit driven with lesser risk factor and hassle free guess work and analysis. Anyway its all up to you to whether get this FREE and Famous auto trader or buy some junk which would cost you more than a thousand bucks and still fails to give any profit.
The Bitcoin Code is a complete package which takes care of all aspects of your trading requirements. One can easily make close to $500 daily and if you are lucky enough then only sky is the limit. The Bitcoin Code System algorithm is one of its kind. Generally, all auto trading software put a single amount of investment on a single asset. Trading Software that uses Binary Options essentially show your potential trade for fixed dollar amount. Either you take or leave it. When The Bitcoin Code APP presents you with a potential trade, The Bitcoin Code Trading software makes multiple small deals in exchange for a higher fixed dollar amount. Instead of offering one trade, you are offered a small portfolio of stock in exchange for better deal for you.
An initial investment of The Bitcoin Code Trading APP just $250 and you are up and running to start trading. $250 is the bare minimum and an accepted industry standard as an initial investment amount. With an ITM hovering around 84%, which is a decent and realistic figure, a serious trader with a decent background can easily make around $3,700-$7,500 every week. The Bitcoin Code offers both Manual and Auto-trading. Each type has its own USPs and you may use whichever suits your style of trading. Trading in Auto-pilot mode is just like as you say earning even in your sleep. Just keep your The Bitcoin Code software running and let The Bitcoin Code do the trade for you.
If you are a novice, we would recommend you start trading with the Auto trading option and learn the nuances of the trade. Only after you’ve gained enough insight into how The Bitcoin Code does the trade for you, you should move towards Manual stuff. Imagine what sort of a surprise it would be to see money just discretely scurried into your bank account overnight! Well, one can’t describe that feeling. Manual mode allows you more discretion. You can choose your trades yourself if your experience or intuition prods you to.
The Bitcoin Code allows you to trade in almost all the commonly traded assets there are. Be its stocks, currency pairs, indices or commodities. With a wide portfolio of assets available at your disposal, you can just make a selection. High/Low, Short-term, One Touch and Long-Term, Boundary trading options have become a norm. The Bitcoin Code also lets you Follow other traders. Whatever a trader you are following is trading with, whatever he is gaining or losing, you get to see it all. You can also Copy your own trades on the lines of other successful traders you deem impressive. Whats motivating is, you also get to see the live trades of a few Hall of Fame traders who are featured on the Home Page of The Bitcoin Code Website.
Initially, The Bitcoin Code software is being given for free to a hand-picked few guys and if you are among those lucky guys, you can also get your hands around it. What The Bitcoin Code is looking for at the moment is to share free copies of Bitcoin Code software to a handful of Beta-testers. Years of research and work have gone behind The Bitcoin Code, you see today. As with anything that has so creatively and carefully crafted for perfection, The Bitcoin Code creators do not want to let any glitches or short-comings creep into their public release. Your only job would be to provide invaluable feedback on the software’s working and whether it goes down well to satisfy your earning targets. And guess what, all this while you enjoy all the benefits of this software which in some days from now would be available for no less than a couple of thousands dollars. (Note that all beta testers will get a free lifetime license copy of The Bitcoin Code, so I recommend all of my readers to join in The Bitcoin Code system ASAP).
Our Take on The Bitcoin Code
You can think for yourself what would be the quality of the product whose creators are geniuses in their own field.
Before taking up this task to review The Bitcoin Code, our team itself procured a copy of the software. We do not believe in blindly following the facts presented to us by the advertorial videos. Rather, we like to get a real-time and first-hand experience before we start preaching the positives or the negatives. Let me tell you, the results we got in the last 3 weeks of using The Bitcoin Code are very encouraging if not downright superb! They claim that The Bitcoin Code trading software has not lost a single trade since the last nine months it has been up and running. Well, it hasn’t for us either. We have been able to round up an ITM of nearly 84% for our trades. Considering the fact that genuine traders, who know their craft well, can rake in very good money with a decent ITM. We’ve seen so many scam software which promise surreal amounts of profits, but are just a decoy and no more.
The Bitcoin Code trading platform as a whole is simple in design yet powerful in action. The feel of the trading dashboard is exciting and that topped up with the kind of profits it makes, the experience is out of the Trading world.

Is salesforce twittering on the brink? $CRM

Key Stats for salesforce.com, inc.

Brokerages:
There are many factors to consider when choosing a brokerage. Regulations typically force US traders to only trade at US brokerages, while international traders have more choice. After considering location you need to consider how much capital you will start trading with as many have minimum deposit levels. Once you’ve narrowed that down you can compared spreads and execution. ECN brokers execute your orders straight through to their liquidity providers, while market maker brokers may pair up your trades with other clients. Market maker brokers typically will partially hedge your positions on the interbank market. Many consider this to be a conflict of interest and prefer to trade at an ECN broker who would have an active motive to see you succeed. Lastly, brokers run inherently risky business models so it is important to consider the risk of bankruptcy.

FAQ:
I need to exchange money, how do I do it?
This isn’t what this sub is for. Your best bet is using your bank or an online exchange service. Be prepared to pay a hefty fee.
I have money in one currency and need to exchange it into another sometime in the future, should I wait?
Don’t ask us this. We speculate intraday in FX and shouldn’t be relied on to tell you what’s best for you. Exchange the money when you need it.
I have an FX account, should I start trading demo or live?
This is highly debatable. You should definitely demo trade until you have mastered how to use the trading platform on desktop and mobile. After that it’s up to you. Many think that the psychology of trading live vs demo trading is massively different. So it may pay to learn to trade live. Just be warned that most FX traders lose almost their entire first account so start with a low affordable balance.
What’s money management?
Money management is a form of risk management and is arguably the most important aspect of your trading when it comes to long term survival. You should always enter trades with a stop loss - the distance of the stop allows you to calculate how large of a percent of your account balance will be lost if your trade stops out. You can run a monte carlo simulation to figure out the risk of having a number of trades go against you in a row to drain your account. The general rule is that you should only risk losing 1-4% of your account per trade entered.

www.swing-trade-stocks.com/money-management.html[36]
What about automated trading?
Retail FX traders have been known to program “Expert Advisors” (EAs) to automate trading. It’s generally advisable to stay away from that until you’re very experienced. Never buy an EA from a developer because the vast majority of them are scams.
What indicators are best?
That’s up to you to test and find out. Many in this forum dislike oscillating indicators since they fail to capture the essence of what moves price. With experience you will discover what works best for you. In my experience indicators that are most popular with professional traders are those that provide trading “levels” such as pivot points, fibonacci, moving averages, trendlines, etc.
What timeframe should I trade?
Price action can vary in different timeframes. In longer term timeframes the price action and fundamentals are much more clear. Unfortunately it would take a very long time to figure out whether or not what you’re doing is successful on longer timeframes. In shorter timeframes you can often tell very quickly if what you’re doing is profitable. Unfortunately there’s a lot more “noise” on these levels which can prove deceptive for those trying to learn. Therefore the best bet is to use a multi-timeframe analysis, working from top-down to come up with trades.
Should I trade using fundamental analysis (FA) of technical analysis (TA)?
This is a long standing argument in these forums and elsewhere. I’ll settle it here - you should have an understanding of both. Yes there are traders who blindly ignore one of the other but a truly well rounded trader should understand and implement both into the analysis. The market is driven in the longer term through FA. But TA is necessary to give traders a place to enter and exit trades from a psychological risk/reward standpoint.
I’ve heard trading Binary Options is an easy way to make money?
The general advice is to stay away from binaries. The structure of binary options is so that when you lose the broker wins. This incentive has created a very scammy industry where there are few legitimate binary options brokers. In addition in order to be profitable in binaries you have to win 55-65% of the time. That’s a much higher premium over spot FX.
Am I actually exchanging currencies?
Yes and no. Your broker handles spot FX is currency pairs. Although they make an exchange at the settlement date they treat your position in your account as a virtual currency pair. Think of it like a contract where you can only buy or sell it as a pair. In this sense you are always long one currency while short another. You are merely speculating that one currency will appreciate or depreciate vs another.
Why didn't my order fill?
Even if price appears to cross over a line on your chart it does not guarantee a fill. Different charting platforms chart different prices - some chart the bid price, some the ask price and some the midpoint price. To fill a limit order price needs to cross your limit's price plus the spread at the time that it is crossing. If it does not equal or exceed the spread then it will not fill. Be wary that in general spreads are not fixed. So what may fill at one time may not at another.

The battle between the sellers and buyers organize the valuation of assets (the sellers are offering buyers and demand).
